We have just finished designing three blogs in three weeks! This was really a crazy process. We pressured ourselves to get these three websites up and running under three weeks. Let’s talk about what it takes to accomplish such a task. Keep in mind that each one needed it’s own identity, and a unique representation of what the site is about. For the blogging software, we decided to go with WordPress, because we simply believe that WordPress is the best blogging software out there. There is a huge list of WordPress plug-ins available on their site. Basically, anything you can possibly think of already exists, and if it doesn’t, someone is already working on it! So let’s talk about how we designed these sites from scratch.
Week #1: BrownMajik.com
BrownMajik.com is a website where funny / amusing content is gathered from around the internet and posted in a WordPress blog. We used over 10+ plug-ins to make this site functional and easier to update for the owners. We were asked to design the logo, and a blog that is easy to maintain. Simply yet memorable logo was finally designed in Illustrator after so many scratches drawn out on paper. Creating a custom theme wasn’t as easy of a process as we would have thought. We had to integrate different plug-ins to comply with out theme. So go ahead, and check it out! Tell us how you like it.
Week #2: ApnaNukkad.com
Second up is, ApnaNukkad.com. This has a similar concept as the Brown Majik website, but it’s audience is generalized. The main audience for ApnaNukkad is people living in South Asia or people who are from there. We were asked to design a logo, a blog, and forums. Logo was the most interesting part of this job! The word “nukkad” means street corner, the idea of it is that a street corner is the place to chitchat with friends. Since this site is getting international viewers, our logo had to be meaningful and understood all over. The orange arrow point towards bottom says that it’s a street corner while the entire logo represents an image of bonfire. Since we didn’t want to create forums from scratch, we decided to use the plug-in called, RS-Discuss to integrate it into our theme. This was a very easy to use plug-in, it just integrated right into our theme. Go check out the site, and tell us what you think!
Week #3: DeafMusician.com
We needed a blog for us! It’s been a hectic process as we pushed ourselves to accomplish designing three different websites in three weeks, including designing the logo and a custom WordPress theme.
Here are some of the plug-ins we used to make our job easy. Akismet, Cryptographp, WP-Contact Form, Flexible Upload, Google Sitemaps, Jerome’s Keywords, Lightbox 2 Plugin, Sidebar Widgets, Similar Posts, Google Analytics, Wordpress Video Plugin, WP-Cache.
Check back with us this week as we will go over the best WordPress plug-ins that can help your blog!
