Do the websites of 2008 presidential candidates have a strong message to portray? Let’s examine the websites of our top presidential candidates. Things I look for are the most common things an average person is looking for on a potential presidential candidate. I look for things like, “Where / How can I contribute?”, “What are your views on different issues?”, “What’s new?”, “Where are you going next?” and things of that nature. So, I decided to run this analysis on the top six candidates (sorted by the total amount raised in donations and expenditures).

Hillary Clinton

Hillary has a great site, it was really simple to answer all my questions above. The information is really easy to find and everything is right in your face, yet not too cluttered. The friendly smile never hurts. Her and Rudy are the only people who use their first names in the campaign logo.

Barack Obama

Obama has a great picture, even though he’s not smiling, it shows his seriousness towards issues and it shows you his willingness to tackle any issue. He is the only candidate with an actual logo rather than just their name written in a certain way. Different speech poses would be nice.

Mitt Romney

Dull colors, uneven typography, and very cluttered. When you go to his website, you don’t get to see his picture immediately. The typography and color combinations just suck.

Rudy Guiliani

Come on Mr. Guiliani, couldn’t buy a domain of your own name? Why are you not saying your last name anywhere? Rudy Guiliani that should be in your header, not Join Rudy… why hide your last name? Same goes for you Hillary.

John McCain

McCain is the only guy with a black background, dark theme, maybe he has a dark personality. Site is really clean, great content. Off-topic, but ever seen him talk? His eyes blink so much, it’s almost annoying.

John Edwards

Red, white & blue… did you not the get the memo, Mr. Edwards? This site is just too cluttered, hard to find information and so much irrelevant news. I came to your site to find out more information about you, not to check if Gonzales resigned or not. The main banner lacks pictures, show us your friendly smile, I don’t want to see your back.

There’s no common trend, besides the red, white, & blue colors of the American flag. What are your favorites? Any other candidates sites that you like? What’s so good about it?

Who the hell is Mitt Romney? Never heard of him. What kind of a name is “Mitt” anyways? As I’m not from the US maybe I just missed something. Anyways, any president who is not a death penalty supporting simple minded Texan will be appreciated, so this election outcome will be certainly a good one. Even McCain or Giuliani would be OK, the former at least knows what war means, the latter dresses up like a woman sometimes.

Obama isn’t the only one with a logo, he’s just the only one with the placement. John Edwards and Hilary Clinton use the flag, just in a different way. I love the way John Edwards’s is.

Well, I was saying like a separate image from their name with a flag underneath… but I guess they are also a logo, so you’re right.
